Mohan Vaidya meets PM Bhattarai

Kathmandu, Sept.3: UCPN (Maoist) senior vice chairman Mohan Baidya met another vice chairman and Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar Saturday morning to discuss the latest internal dispute over the handover of the keys of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) arms containers to the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC).

At the meeting Baidya known to have reiterated his stance that the handover of the keys to the AISC is not a respectable move as he reminded Bhattarai of the support he gave while nominating as the prime ministerial candidate.

The meeting came hours before a crucial meeting of the Maoist standing committee that will take up the new dispute in the party.

The Baidya faction including general secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa boycotted the SC meeting on Friday, opposing the decision to hand over the keys of the arms containers.

The hardliner faction obstructed vehicular traffic in the capital and around the country to protest the move yesterday.

Both party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and PM Bhattarai are in favour of expediting the peace process as per the recent action plan brought up by the party and the four-point agreement with the Madhesi alliance.
